Fernando A. Torres is a Latin American Analyst, human rights activist, author, and lecturer. He is the founder of Axis Mundi Organization, an international non-profit organization focused on the understanding and development of the Central American culture, which was founded in Guatemala in 2011. Torres has published several books on contemporary Latin American issues including The Crisis of Democracy in Guatemala (Hurst & Co., 2010), The Struggle for Democracy in Central America (Hurst & Co., 2015) and The Silence of Violence (2011)

He also co-authored two books with his brother, Rafael Torres: The Cholera Scourge (2001) and The Privatization of Guatemalan Water (2002). Torres has served as an advisor to the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights (IACHR) and IACHR's Special Rapporteur for Honduras. Torres is also a columnist for numerous publications including International Viewpoint (UK), El Diario (Guatemala), La Jornada (Mexico), Buenos Aires Herald (Argentina), Agencia Alemana de Noticias (Spain), Voz del Pueblo (Chile), Radio Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia), La Verdad de Bolivia, Novedades de Bolivia y Bolivia Ahora! He is currently working on other books on the subject of human rights violations in Guatemala, economic development in Central America, US foreign policy towards Latin America, and US-Latin American relations.
